BTC Markets applies for tokenized asset license

Australian digital asset infrastructure is expanding into traditional finance, preparing the ground for regulated, 24/7 trading of tokenized real-world assets like bonds and equities.

What happened

Local crypto exchange BTC Markets formally notified ASIC of its intent to apply for a markets license to offer regulated tokenized real-world assets to the public. CEO Lucas Dobbins outlined plans to trade tokenized equities, bonds, and RWAs alongside cryptocurrencies with instant settlement.

Why it matters here

Tokenization converts traditional illiquid or market-hours-bound assets into continuously traded digital assets. An ASIC-regulated framework would allow local institutional and retail investors to access blockchain-based real-world asset trading under Australian legal oversight.

What to watch

Official updates from ASIC regarding the progress and approval timeline of BTC Markets' market license application.
