Consumers adopt AI deal tools while limiting automated spending

Australian consumers are embracing artificial intelligence to compare prices amid cost-of-living pressures, but remain hesitant to give automated tools control over checkout transactions.

What happened

EY Australia research shows 72% of Australians are comfortable using AI to track grocery prices and identify bargains. However, only 2% prefer AI agents to automatically complete purchases, while local price platform Zyft expands tools to track price drops across retailers.

Why it matters here

Agentic AI offers potential time savings for households managing tight budgets. While adoption of price-comparison features is growing rapidly, security concerns and a lack of trust mean consumers still demand final approval before funds are spent at checkout.
