IPD Group flags multibillion-dollar Australian data centre opportunity

IPD Group highlighted a $140 billion pipeline in Australian data centre infrastructure through 2035, pointing to structural demand driven by artificial intelligence and digital capacity expansions.

What happened

On its FY26 earnings call, IPD Group management detailed a forecasted $140 billion investment pipeline in the Australian data centre sector between now and 2035. Industry power capacity in data centres is projected to expand from 1.5GW today to 3.2GW by 2030, reaching up to 7.4GW by 2035.

Why it matters here

The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and cloud computing is creating substantial long-term demand for physical electrical and industrial infrastructure in Australia. Supply chain and infrastructure providers connected to power grid upgrades and data centre construction stand to capture sustained multi-year capital expenditure.
