Pepper Money Delivers Pro Forma Profit Growth

Non-bank lender Pepper Money achieved strong originations and margin growth despite broader market softness. Investors should note how market share gains can buffer non-bank financials against declining system-wide loan demand.

What happened

Pepper Money reported a 15 per cent rise in pro forma net profit after tax to $53.9 million for the first half of 2026, with total originations rising 40 per cent to $6.3 billion. Mortgage originations rose 63 per cent to $4.5 billion, while total assets under management reached a record $24 billion, even as overall Australian mortgage inquiries dropped 20 per cent.

Why it matters here

Non-bank lenders are capturing loan originations from traditional major banks by expanding prime mortgage volumes and securing portfolio servicing mandates, such as the RAMS and HSBC portfolios. Improved net interest margins of 2.1 per cent demonstrate operational resilience, though sustained credit growth depends on broader household financial stability.

What to watch

System-wide Australian home loan originations data and credit arrears figures across non-conforming lending segments over the second half of the 2026 financial year.
