Western Australia resource base projected at A$8.1 trillion

Long-term resource reserves underscore Australia's key commodity advantages. Long-horizon investors gain clarity on potential royalty revenue, infrastructure demand, and sustained dividend funding from mining majors over coming decades.

What happened

Modelling by EY-Parthenon for the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia shows identified state mineral and energy resources could generate A$8.1 trillion in saleable product value through 2100. Under a central scenario assuming 80% development, the sector would support A$1.9 trillion in economic activity, A$476 billion in state royalties, and A$855 billion in Commonwealth corporate tax.

Why it matters here

Iron ore accounts for the largest share at A$5.53 trillion in saleable value, followed by natural gas at A$738 billion, lithium at A$526 billion, and gold at A$474 billion. This massive resource pipeline underpins long-term Australian government revenue, export strength, and ongoing capital deployment across critical minerals supporting energy transition and technology infrastructure.

What to watch

Federal and Western Australian state budget mid-year updates for revised forecasts on resource royalty revenues, regional capital expenditure, and corporate tax receipts through 2026.
